    Another LS6 On Ebay...

I smell a brand-new manufactured LS6 in the air...Anybody want to bet the seller will end up having to dispose of the body himself?

Craig, you may recognize the seller's name. John Meissenger has posted here before. He asked several questions about engine stamp pads and how to "restore" them, but we haven't heard from him lately. His ebay history indicates he's an incredible ebay entrepreneur with high satisfaction marks. (To paraphrase old Abe, 'You can never please all of the people, all of the time'.)

        Chuck:

I noticed and recognized the name also, as well as his past inquiries here on the forum.

What I found interesting, was his statement as to LS6 blocks were only cast on 2 days. How was this determined?

I've been keeping track of LS6 cars, as they are a lot of interest to me. An early vin is #11499 and a later vin is #15065. I can't imagine only 2 casting dates for these cars ranging from Feb thru Apr built cars.

Warren, I also noticed that, but had no knowledge about the statement one way or the other. It seemed improbable to me; I believe I would have left it out since it doesn't add anything to the car's description. All the big block cases from 70 to 71, LS6 notwithstading, have the same casting number (3963512). I suppose it could be true, but implies a detailed inside knowledge of GMs production scheduling not generally in evidence.

not likely that all LS6 motors were cast on two days - the factory guys just grabbed whatever 4 bolt block was there they didn't check the casting dates. The assembly dates may be a different story, but the big blocks were not batch built, so I doubt that St. Louis ordered 200 LS6 motors to just sit around until the build date of the cars.

I think that you would find that ALL solid lifter big blocks were "batch built", but more that just two batches.. Just as the same as the rare alternators, starters, carbs, etc. There was a LS 6 survey that bore this out.

                  Dick:

I read the initial survey article by Dr. Hans Norberg, several years ago. Sure would like to have a follow up. It's been about 7 or 8 years since that appeared in the Corvette Restorer.

Warren, I have no idea what has happened to the survey info since the good Dr. Norberg passed away. I saw the complete survey data at one time and it was very interesting.

Yep. Appears to me that the buyer must be depending on appreciation...looks like John made all of the "easy money".
