I took my 69 out today after being in the garage for a few months and the brakes feel like they are on. It has an automatic. While driving down the street, I put it in neutral and tried to coast, but the car slowed quickly and stopped. Even on a little downhill, I had to give it some gas to go. To make sure it wasn't the parking brake, I pulled it up during driving and could feel it catch near the top and slow the car down, so I don't think its the parking brake. Could one of the brake pistons be stuck? Should I lift each wheel up and try to spin it? The transmission? Help.

Re: C3 BRAKES FEEL STUCK
Mike - I would proceed as you suggest, put the car on a lift (or jack up) and check the wheels for bind to see what you are dealing with. If several are stuck, maybe there are some plugged bleedback ports in the master cylinder. If only one is stuck you may have found the culprit. Also make sure the parking brake you mention is really fully disengaging, allowing the shoes to back off all the way and not just partially, and is not sticking. Of course, these systems are next to useless anyway, so that may not be your problem as you state. Craig- Top

Re: C3 BRAKES FEEL STUCK
A collapsed rubber brake hose gave me some problems once about 20 years ago. It occured on the right front of ny 68. The application was so great that the right front was really smoking. After it cooled down for about an hour I drove home using gearing and the handbrake with only two stop signs on my 10 mile route. I thought it was a faulty caliper not knowing the symptons were of a collapsed brake hose. Replaced both front rubber brake lines at the same time.- Top

Re: C3 BRAKES FEEL STUCK
I had the same problem with my 69. It turned out that it was the parking brake rusting to the drum. I always wash it before putting it away and since I found out what it was I park it with the brake off and no more problems.

Re: Eh?! Send Your Corvette To WINTER Camp?!!
That's right, and it is such a deal. Several years ago in Chicago, I found some stored cars in indoor storage that ran $75 to $100 a month. And after six months of storage, they had dead batteries, leaking brakes, etc. The real cost of storage is MUCH higher.
I can take care of someone much lower.
Plus your car will enjoy being with other Corvettes for the winter.- Top
