A buddy called me yesterday to tell me about a nice '70 Coupe that is for sale that he thought I'd be interested in. He said the car had been laid up in a garage for a while and had a distinct "odor" inside - mice! From past experience with a '72 that I had, I know they can build nests under the seats and in the kick panels. Anywhere else I should look for nests should I get the car? Thanks in advance, Mark.

Re: Lookin' for critters!
Turn the engine over with care! Mice have been known to crawl up tail pipes and nest in the exhaust. If exhaust pipes are somehow open, they've been know to crawl up exhaust manifolds and next cylinders whose exhaust valves came to final rest in the open state!
If air cleaner wasn't intact, you can also find the pesky critters to have crawled into the intake manifold and done the deed there.... Last, there's the 'obvious'....go inside the car and nested in the A/C-heater box as well as duct work. Same goes for the outside ducting--in '70 there were no debris screens in the cowl allowing mice and autum tree debris to 'nestle' in the engine compartment side of the Harrison air box!- Top

I tell ya, I just couldn't get this big guy to leave. It's not a rat, it's a ground hog, for you city boys. PT

Re: Check out this critter under my C-5...
I had chipmunks gnaw a hole in the underside of my '00 Mag Red convertible and store their winter's supply of food in my heater plenum. When my insurance adjuster saw the car, he laughed as hw wrote out the check for over $1000 to my dealer for repairs.

Re: Lookin' for critters!
You're starting to sound like my wife Gary! Actually, I've got it down to a short list of a '67 Z-28, '70 LS6 Chevelle and a '67 BB Corvette Coupe. However, finding "keepers" in these categories is difficult, so I need to exercise my urge to buy every once in a while by picking up the odd "stray" that needs a little TLC before finding a new home See you in Windsor!- Top
