    Non Barrier A/C hoses

Does anyone know where I can get correct non-barrier A/C hose for my 67 L79? I have one section, of 13/32", but none of the rest. I have heard the barrier hose will tyically leak on the non-barrier hose barbs. At least 67 still had the clamps vs crimpted hoses.....thx!....Craig

    Re: Non Barrier A/C hoses

I was not able to locate a source of non barrier hoses.
I also heard I was going to have leaks with barrier hoses and barbed type fittings. I am currently running barrier hoses on my 66. I wanted the original look so I am using hose clamp type AC fittings. I recently took it into the AC shop where they used the special light to look for leaks. None found.

Thx Randy for the info......glad to hear the barrier hose is holding the pressure. Actually, the liner will help prevent seepage through the hose as long as the barbs seal...Craig

        Much ado....

Two years ago, I was at a high country service station. One of the mechanics inherited a '64 Buick Wildcat from his mother and brought in in for a look-see. This was the provebial 'little old lady car' that had seen disuse for roughtly 15-years before his mother passed away....

The vent caps on the A/C Schrader valves had NEVER seen a mechanic's wrench and the R-12 was tip-top in terms of pressure/fill. She blew SOLID cold air!

The notion that ALL R-12 systems will leak over time without today's 'superior' hose/seal technology is, perhaps, over-rated....

When I installed a mustang system several years ago, the refrigeration supply house had a tube of sealant that I put on the ends of the barbs. I may be able to look up the brand name when I get home.

I looked at it last night but the markings and now my memory are both faint. But it was Leak Loc or Leak Stop. Tube was kind of Blue/gray material. I bought it at a refrigeration supply house.

What you describe is Leak Lock. Great stuff, but I would not use it on AC hoses as it sets up hard and brittle.

For AC hoses, I would use some refrigeration oil and that's it. The rubber of the hose should be enough to seal the joint. And for sealing teflon lined barrier hoses, I just slide them on dry and clamp.
