I have removed the lock tumbler assembly from the glove box in my 62. It has been a while since I took it out. I am having a problem reinserting it into the latch assembly. Is there a trick to reinserting the tumbler? I have tried putting it in with the key inserted but there is resistance before it goes all the way in. The tumbler that you depress to get the lock out won't push into the lock assembly and seems to be too tight to fit in the latch. The assembly worked fine before it was removed. What am I doing wrong. I don't want to force it and break something. I remember it being easy to remove and reinsert if you know how.

Re: C1 glove box lock
Sounds like the key could be an n-th generation copy whose cuts have drifted in terms of precision. If so, one or more of the wafer in the lock cylinder might not be fully/properly recessed when the key is inserted causing the lock cylinder to 'hang' when being re-installed in the lock body.
One with experience can insert the key in the naked lock cylinder, eyeball the position of the wafers and immediately conclude if that's the problem. If so, re-cutting a fresh key from the lock's code, manually changing the cut of the offending wafer position, OR changing (perhaps simply discarding) the offending wafer gets the problem solved. Suggest you visit a locksmith. SB a quick in/out affair....- Top
