    C1 1958 splash shield installation

I am trying to determine how to assemble the splash shields on my 58. I believe I have the correct clutch head screws and have painted the shields semi-gloss black. Now for the questions.
Are the shields installed before or after body drop?
Are the shields undercoated? Before or after installation? Top, bottom, both?
Are the silver heads of the clutch head bolts painted black or undercoated?
    Thanks in advance.

    Ken,

I'm about at the same stage with my '58. When I disassembled the car two and one-half years ago I made a note to put the left side flags on before the spash shield. Also, if my mind serves me correctly, I believe there is a bolt that holds the splash shield to the frame which should answer your question about the drop with or without the shield or maybe it makes no difference. Hope someone else confirms this. It's been a while.

      Ken...

Not being an expert on how the factory did the installation, I well go from what I did and understand.

Install the shields after body drop, as they attach to both the body and frame. Dropping the body with them on would leave no clearance between the shields and frame...

Best to secure the shield weatherstrip with adhesive before mounting.

The shields are sprayed with a rubberized undercoating on the outer exposed side after installation. The bolt heads are covered. Overspray will appear.

The right splash shield provides mounting of the windshield washer canister.
Frame bolts are Hex-head, headmarked "E"

Recommend you look at some judged cars to get a feel for the undercoating process.

        Ken
        Dennis is correct i believe
        1. you have to put the shields on after the body is on because of reasons stated
        2. at least the edge of the shields over the bolts on the top in the wheel well are covered with undercoat overspray the judges will look for overspray over those clutch head bolt heads.
