wanna see my $50 4 post lift?

i've never posted a picture anywhere before, so i hope this works. if not, back to the drawing board. i could not resist showing you the $50 four post lift that i used to remove and replace my transmission. the lift worked great, as does the trannie rebuild. i hope this link works because i sure have enjoyed many of the pictures that i have seen here, especially the closeups of problems, questionable parts, special tools etc. happy motoring and a great memorial day weekend to all!!

reminds me of a garage we had while i was in med school(about 1970) i bought a totaled 66 427/425 sans engine and tranny and front clip for 350 big ones (at the time) had to switch out the frame as the original was bent like a pretzel. the garage i switched frame in was desinged for a Model A--a foot of clearance on each side. i too jacked the body up, pulled bent frame and replaced it with a 64 frame. installed a worn out 327/ t-10, pieced the front clip together with junkyard fractured panels, stood back with a bucket of gold enamel and turned it for 2500. bought our 65 FI with 19K miles on it with 650 bucks of the profit. Now i get pissed if my Gilbarco doesn't reach its max in under30 seconds(the Dipstick's average et's on 1/4 mile runs). as you can see, i'm wound up tonite. mikie

          Byron What a sad photo.

The fact that some one would risk there life to repair that vehicle.(any vehicle as a matter of fact)

I had one of my worker today working under his personal truck on a floor jack ready to topple over (because he had it on a spot of fresh pavement)rear tire off and no jack stands(we have 2 floor jacks and 8 jack stands and a concrete pad for tire rotations truck wash and repairs on site).scary stuff how little people care for there own saftey.

mike- things were a lot different in med school. first of all, i was young enough to go out in minus 18 weather to fix the under-dash wiring on my MGA. second, i don't even want to think about how cold it was to get into that puppy at 5 am in a wisconsin february-that car had an even worse heater than my old VW [no lie] and the side curtains leaked air like you know what. third, i painted it with 4 cans of spray somthing or other and used rubbing compound for a decent looking pumpkin color driver. still, it was a blast. by the way, it took me 4 hours to cut the lumber and lift the car 42 inches. this gave me good head room to sit under it and do the traansmission work. i only posted this for fun, as i'm not sure i would do it again. it was more of an experiment to see if it could be done.

It is scary. At the races, I used to see guys with race cars on jack stands (because you are required to) but never think that soft dirt or sand won't support the stand.

I used to keep 1 foot square pieces of 3/4 plywood to set the stands on. These were checked before each weekend and replaced is cracking or crushing. Even then, if we actually went under the car, we'd throw a tire under just in case.

It is one thing to take a calculated risk on the track, it is another to do something stupid in the paddock.

That is why I really like the early years with my open trailer that was open down the center. You put the car on the trailer, and change the tranny or the oil without any fear of the car falling.

You got under that set up, you may deserve the Darwin Award for the year.

Actually, several weeks ago a friend send that picture of that guy with the truck as one of several pictures of candidates for dumb ideas.
