    66 327/300 Oil Pan

I just turned my motor upside down and found a salvage yard yellow marker note on the bottom of the oil pan. This suggests it has been replaced. What should I look for to determine if this is a correct 66 327/300 pan?

    Salvage Yard Yellow Marker

I found the answer in the JG. A correct oil pan has three 1-1/2" ribs on the left, two on the right, and drains to the rear. Mine matches, albiet, I always wonder about the history of salvage yard markings on an engine part...

Virtually all 1963-74 Corvette small block oil pans were the same, except for 63-65 SHP engines and a few 70-72 models with ZR-1. However, the Corvette oil pan was not used for ANY other chassis. It's hard to say, for sure, if the pan is correct without seeing a picture of it.

Like they say-----a picture is worth a thousand words. This is exactly the oil pan that you need. This pan is GM #3820000 and was used for most 1963-74 Corvette small block applications and was NOT used for ANY other chassis application besides Corvette. This is a "5 quart" oil pan (i.e. the capacity of the oil system at "full" with a filter change is 5 quarts).

This pan looks to be in good shape. A good cleaning and refinishing should yield a fine appearing pan.

I should have mentioned that the drain plug is not correct for a 1966, though. You will need to change that to the 7/8" across-the-flats style plug.
