I'll start by saying this is most likely an unanswerable question, but I had the '62 in for brake work and some other tidbits. I asked the mechanic to check the valve lash since it's been ~500 miles since the rebuild, I haven't had the covers off and don't have time to mess with it right now. (Well, that and I would be learning how to do it, by myself. = Bad idea...) Imagine my surprise when he calls and says the car has hydraulic lifters in it! (The block stamp = 2107646 E0224REF and matches the VIN (20867S107646) on the column.) He put a dial indicator on it and measured .490 lift. The car's got a nice lumpy idle (tho a bit quieter without the heat riser valve that was split in 2), and the good news is, I don't need to worry about lash anytime soon. SO-
Is there any way to tell what cam this is without pulling it out of the block or getting the info from the PO? (It's entirely possible it was there when he got her in '97, and I certainly didn't ask before buying the car, so this is all my own lack of due diligence.....)
