70 Engine Suffix Code Label photo

The link has a photo of the decal from my 70 454. This photo is better than the one I submitted last week.

Chris It looks the same size as a known original on a 454 73. The 73 was black letters. Lyle

Lyle, I'm not the expert on this, but I believe the colors of the label and of the printed letters may also have varied according to engine option.

Chuck On 73's I have only seen black letters and they always match the letters stamped on the pad. Lyle

My mistake, Lyle. I was thinking I had seen a 70 label other than LS5 that was black letters on yellow paper, but it must have been a 71.

              You have.

Chris has the only one I've ever seen that is red on yellow, for any year.

Patrick, the yellow I remember was more of goldenrod yellow. I considered Chris' label to be red on "aged" white or a "manila stock" color.

No, I think he has "aged yellow" or "aged gold." Maybe more aged than others I've seen, but the right chemicals from a prior owner's cleaning attempts would likely bleach it too.

To the naked eye it appears to have originally been red on manilla. The red has faded to orange, and the manilla has gotten darker.

One of the photos I took was with a flash, the other without.

Chuck Black on yellow is all I have seen in person. I have now seen red in a picture but I like to see them myself as the ones I have made and gave away are now on so many cars new judges think they are seeing an original if the owner found a way to age it. Lyle

                        Thanks Chris.

The other thing that strikes me is that I've seen a couple of unusual stickers on VERY early 1970 cars. Perhaps that is why Chris' sticker does not seem to match the majority of stickers out there.

Hi Zachary, I have a very early car, VIN #531, body build date A09 (Jan 9th).

For what it's worth, the engine build date is T1219 (December 19, 1969).
