    '69 wiper motor gorund

My early 69's wiper motor has a clip on top that from all indications should have a ground wire connected to it. In fact, the only way I can get the motor to run is to ground it but I can't find any evidence of a ground wire on the car. Can someone please tell me from where the ground should be coming (i.e. a wiring harness) or if it is simply grounded to something?

Another problem I have is that to initially get the wiper motor running I must ground the motor but then it will not cut off, even when the wiper switch is in the off position, until I remove the ground. Once removed, the motor remains off until the switch is turned on again. Can anyone shed any light on this rather bizare behavior?

    Thanks in advance,

    Jack

Jack This may help as I know on a 73 their is a black wire (the ground you are looking) for that comes out of the harness to the drivers side of the motor. I have had them broken or burned off and you need to remove the wraping to find where 3 or 4 grounds hook together and put it back on. Your second problem may have caused your first problem so you may want to fuse the ground till other problems are fixed. Lyle.

Agree with advice given--WSW ground is in the engine harness exiting the tape wrap at the Y-point along the firewall just below the WSW motor. I disagree that your turn-off problem is related....

Once you manually jumper a connection to ground, you've got ground! Depending on year of car, you'll find a nice troubleshooting guide (by symptom) in either the Chassis Service Manual or the Fisher Body Manual. Gives you step-by-step on how to jumper this/that to force operation & diagnose with (A) the wiper/washer on the car and (B) the assy pulled and on the bench.

Jack I have seen that ground burnt off on more than one Corvette and I allways thought the wipermotor had burnt it off by shorting out or being wired wrong. Lyle

Wiper motors are hot all the time with the switch providing ground to complete the circuit. Make sure the panel the switch is mounted to is well grounded with a wire from the switch mount on the panel to a good ground on the car or wiring harness ground system.

If it will not turn off with the wiper case grounded something else is wrong with wiring connections to the wiper or internally.
