Re: coil identification
238 B-R was used on a variety of GM cars in the 60's and '79's including Chevelle, Camaro, GTO, 442 and others. reproduction depends on who did the reproduction. There were "sleved" colis and I now believe there are completely manufactured "ground up" items available.Bill Clupper #618- Top

Yes, the reproduction coils now manufactured by Goat Hill Classics (aka Paul Baker) are completely new except for the cap. The caps are salvaged from other Delco run-of-the-mill, non-collector car coils of the period since most of these caps were identical. Goat Hill has the tooling to completely assemble the coils, including the crimping of the cap to the coil "can" section. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: "238 B-R" coil
Even though I don't think they were ever factory installed on a Corvette, the "238" appears in the Corvette P & A 30B Rev Jan '70 GM parts catalog as applicable for '67-'70 Corvette, with the notation "w/1.3 ohm wire (stamped 238-BR)". Same catalog shows '55-'67 as using the 1115202 w/1.8 ohm wire (stamped 202-12-V).
I found/got a nice "238" off a '68 Cutlass in a boneyard, last week.- Top
