    Crossing the Border for Windsor

    Folks,

Just wanted to alert all going to Windsor - don't remember reading/seeing anything about this, but "single brain cell phenomena does set in now and then"!

For all of us making the crossing - MAKE SURE to contact your insurance company for ALL vehicles you may take into and out of Canada to ensure they issue you a "Canadian Non-Resident Inter-Provincial Vehicle Insurance Liability Card."

Just passing on some important information. Rick

Huh? I'm curious as to who told

you that you MUST have one of these cards. Although they are a nice-to-have, there is no requirement to carry one. The standard paperwork provided by your insurance company is more than sufficient.

There's 1000's of cars crossing the US/Canada border every day in each direction, I doubt if even 1% of the drivers.have one of these cards or have ever heard of one.

No use getting people in a panic for nothing.

Re: Huh? I'm curious as to who told

It's in the Customs handbook - and one of my acquaintances that travels across the border very frequently mentioned they do ask for it, especially since 9/11

FYI - not trying to raise a panic, was just relaying info that I had found/heard about. When I called my insurance companies, they were both well award of the card and FAX'd me a copy and are sending me a hard copy through the mail.

Never hurts to be ahead of the game.

          And bring your bottled water

and pocket phrase/translation book to be able speak to the locals. Shouting and pointing works well as an alternate.

Don't forget to memorize the metric system too!

I stopped into my classic car insurance broker the other day and he said that he was having Canadian approved insurance cards made up for all his customers attending the Windsor National with their cars. I'm signed on for the Road Tour and have a competent Vettehead as a Co Pilot. BTW these temporary insurance cards are only good for 30 days so be guided accordingly. Mikey I believe that I will be needing a rental car, any suggestions?

                Suggestions?

Hide the keys from A.C.- you know what he's like after a few lite beers.
I'll send you a note off line, but your best bet is to reserve with any of the 'big name' rental companies. They will all have an office in town or at the airport.

You going with us to Art's afterward?

I believe this event has been labeled the "HI Duce", this = boarders, Art Janie & Zora could be sick of us by awards night. This should be fun. See you there.

do not take any fire arms

and do not use your "permit to carry" as ID.

                          If Canada Is Like Mexico...

A single 22 cal long rifle cartridge forgotten in your vehicle might as well be an RPG launcher...you'll be in for lots of trouble. Of course, the drug lords routinely use automatic weapons to shoot up restraurants and vehicles with impunity to kill their competitors and a few innocents in the process. Remember that old NRA saw..."When guns are outlawed, only outlaws will have guns."

                            On Second Thought...

Crossing into Mexico, you would be better off with a loaded RPG launcher than a single 22 cartridge...they probably wouldn't recognize an RPG launcher as being a "firearm".
