    Polishing C1 valve covers

I realize this flies in the face of everything NCRS stands for but I want to polish the aluminum valve covers on my '57 to a mirror-like finish. They aren't original (nor correct) to the car, so I could always replace them.My question is how to get the valve covers to have a chrome like appearance? Can this be done on a buffing wheel?

    Thx,

    Mike

Baldor buffer with Eastwood buff and polishing compound and many hours if they are finned with corvette script. Go for it if it winds your watch. they are a lot prettier polished.mike

Mike, I tried ploishing aluminum wheel parts for a street rod several years ago and could never get the shine I was looking for. I sent them Advanced Plating in Nashville and they chrome plated them for me and they looked great. It also had chromed Corvette valve covers when I got it (don't know who did the chrome work) and they looked very nice. This might work for you. BTW I traded the street rod for a vette.
