My 427 motor is currently being rebuilt and the original water pump needs to be rebuilt also. Does anyone know of someone who rebuilds the original water pumps? I have heard that there may be rebuild kits available but it can be tricky removing the impeller without breaking the casting. Also, if I have to go to an after market water pump on a short or long term basis until I get my original one rebuilt or find another original, any suggestions on which water pump I should get for a big block A/C car that would not require modification to the A/C brackets? Any information is really appreciated.

Arthur Gould is one individual who has a good reputation for rebuilding water pumps. Bill Mock is another. Both have EXTENSIVE experience. I don't have their contact info handy but you can find it in the archives.
As far as an "interim" waterpump goes, I'd purchase a rebuild from an auto parts store. The chances are great that it will be the GM #3856284 casting you need since this casting is VERY common. If it's not, have the store look through their stock to see if another pump they have is of this casting. Trying another auto parts store if the first one doesn't have it might work, too.In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top
