    Aluminum Valve Covers/Again

The covers for this car (presently off) are badly oxidated (grey) and would like suggestions to renew the finish without POLISHING them. All help appreciated............Thanks, Bill #20328

      Re: Jerry MacNeish

Jerry MacNeish has cleaned up my aluminum intake, valve covers, and rebuilt the 4-speed on my '65--his work is EXCELLENT, his prices are very fair for the work done, and I would (and have) recommended him to anyone interested in this type of work.

        Absolutely.

The only other options I can think of are light bead blasting, aluminum wheel cleaner, or other somewhat abrasive means. You won't get the correct appearance, but you will get rid of some of the corrosion.

Jerry's process sprays a thin layer of aluminum on the parts, and for whatever reason it seems much easier to work with than the original surface. I've found mine easier to clean after they have been reskinned.

Don Dorfman is another excellent choice

          Guys,

Don Dorfman should also be able to restore valve covers. Don has been reskinning aluminum intakes for years and doing a superb job at it. I think his company used to be called ALS or something similar, for the old timers. With intakes, the last time I checked Don was slightly less expensive than Jerry MacNeish and as I said his work is top notch.

Don can be reached via e-mail at: nw_guy4_fun@yahoo.com
