thanks will call them - their web page shows the same poly-tar as Restoration and Antique use - if they say they have AUTHENTICATE tar tops then will buy one
Gents,
I will try to keep my "soap box" comments to a minimum.
Reading from my '65 TIM & JG; "Cars are to be judged to the standard of vehicle appearance,..." and "The purpose of NCRS Flight Judging is to determine how closely a vehicle appears to conform to the NCRS Judging Standard...".
In my mind, the key word in these sentences is appearance/appears, which according to the dictionary are terms that pertain to visual characteristics.
So if the reproduction tar top battery is visually the same as an original tar top battery, it should receive no deduction. According to the word visual, a judge should NOT even be allowed to touch the "tar" to see if it is sticky or not.
If however, a repro tar top is visually different from an original, then since the battery is worth 25 points and it differs from the original design and construction in minor detail (page 122), it receives a 30% deduct (or 7.5 points).
Thanks for the soap box time and allowing me to contribute $.02.
ABSOLUTELY CORRECT! No touching, no feeling, no poking, no prodding! For such intimacy with your car, a judge should request owner permission. Permission is expected for access to areas to be judged, but not to enhance the judges "insight". If the top of the battery APPEARS AS IF IT COULD BE TAR, then it should be judged as being tar. Don't sell yourself so cheap, Gene.
I have batteries from Restoration and New Castle and the New Castle is ar topped and the Restoration battery is as shiny as a baby's butt. You don't have to touch it to know it isn't tar. The Tar top is a pain to keep clean but as stupid as we are about these old cars just throw it away and buy a new one when you can't stand the look or quit showing it which is what I did. By the way once you get pass this hurdle the judges pull out old Delco caps and tell you the width on the replacement cap letters are 1/32" wider. Now here New Castle and Restoration Battery are the same. Been there done that and have the shirt! My .02 worth.
