Hey gang- After two years, I'm finally getting to paint and punching 4 holes for the emblems on a new front clip of my 63. The page in my assembly manual is missing. Can anyone give me the exact postion where I need to place these guys? I took some picture at Carlisle last year but I need these to be exact. Any demensions or measuring points would be helpful? How far up from each other are they? How far off the middle of the fender?
Unfortunately, the prints in the assembly manual won't help much as the vertical height dimensions are not taken from along the surface of the fender, at least on later production cars. The dimensions are from the datum plane. In our language, that's somewhere near the floor. There's a reference to "20SV which means 20 inches above the datum plain side view. The rest of the exact hole locations are referenced too vertically from the 20SV line but they are not along the surface, which is at an angle.
However, if you have an early car, say, roughly 4000 or earlier, the "along the surface" measurement would be correct. That's because all the pre 4000 cars were done incorrectly and measured along the surface instead of off of vertical. If you DO have an early car, I can send the dinensions and the print but if your car is later than 4000, I would try to get the numbers from someone that has a REAL FI car of the later design.
Hope I haven't confused everyone on this but it is becoming an issue in judging, and it should be. Simply put, the FI emblems on an early car should be roughly 1/8" higher than later cars.
She burned right after we split the car up. Fiberglass makes a ton of smoke! She offered to sell it back to me but I had already bought a one piece with bonding strips from Corvette Image.....nice product!! I lost her number but you're welcome to look her up, she's in Atlanta....I think??
Mike, sorry you're still bitter about what happened two years ago. I'm truly sorry and hope that you can only find in your heart to forgive me. Unfortunely you don't have all the facts, only an email exchanges. I indicated "Right now I'm taking offers outside of ebay. I'd like to get $700 for it" You offered 800 which included shipping. I never agreed to the price. You may have thought I did, but I didn't. I had other requests coming in at the same time as yours which raised the price. As it ended up, I received more than your offer--much more, which raised the price of the divorce settlement in my favor. I'm offended that you think I "jacked" you around.
