    Midyear Gauge Lenses

I am somewhat confused by a thread (67 Gauge Cluster Lenses), originally posted 10:40 AM on 6/2. I have always thought that all cluster gauge and clock lenses were installed with the convex side out (i.e. the lens center bulges outward, toward the driver). Please excuse the redundancy, but I just want to make sure that there is no misunderstanding. Unless I misunderstood, then it sounds like the 1967 speedo and tach lenses are installed with the concave side out, in order to accomodate the trip reset knob.

This is how I understand midyear dash lenses:

    1. All 63- 67 clock lenses are plastic, and are installed with the convex (bulging) side out.
    2. All 1963 gauge lenses are plastic, and are installed convex side out.
    3. All 64-66 gauge lenses are glass, and installed convex side out.
    4. 1967 speedo/tach lenses are plastic, installed concave side out.
    5. 1967 small gauge lenses are glass, installed convex side out.

Is this right? Thank you in advance.

    Re: Midyear Gauge Lenses

In 67...no speed warning..... The lenses for gauges, speedo and tach are glass. They are all concave... curve mounted away from driver. The small odometer lens is flat plastic about 1.5 inches long. The clock lense is plastic and also concave. Cars with speed warning, U15 option, have plastic convex lenses on the speedo and tach. The remainder are as above......

I agree with the plastic lenses for 67's with speed alert but I dunno about that convex thing. I think they were concave just like the glass in non speed alert cars. I could be wrong....

Brian Tilles (Corvette Specialties of Maryland) indicates that the '67 U15 tach/speedo lenses are indeed plastic, are concave, and if they are installed convex, the speed-warning set shaft isn't long enough to install the knob; the lens-to-cluster spacers/cushions are also unique to U15 to ensure clearance between the longer needle hubs and the back side of the lenses.

          Re: Thought so, thanks John

I've had several original 67's with speed alert and none had the lenses backwards. All were concave, looking from the drivers position.

All lenses were concave, period! *NM*
