    69 435 hp car?

i am interested in buying 69 vette...car has 427 hood and console shift plate...also has 6500 redline tach and big block? radiator(very large)...car has wrong motor...but has original m-21 trans(1 groove on input) with v.i.n.... are these correct for a 435 hp car....do any other cars have a high redline?..are there any other clues to prove its a 435 hp car?..how about transistor ignition...should there be mounting holes on firewall..or fenderwell? any other clues would be appreciated..can anyone help? ASAP, please as i would like to not miss out if car is real..please e-mail...thanks alot

      Re: 69 435 hp car?

      Max-----

For 1969 only the L-71 (435 hp) and L-88 (430 hp) engines used the 6500 rpm redline tachometer. Also, the M-21 close ratio 4 speed (1 annular groove on input shaft) would have been the only manual transmission installed.

The car would also have included K-66 transistor ignition and the amplifier would have been mounted on the fiberglass panel to the left of the radiator core support.

Other things to look for: all big blocks (but not just L-71s and L-88s) used a rear stabilizer bar and used cap-type u-joint retention on the differential stub axles.

Max, Another item to check is the fuel line. Holley equipped cars did not have the return line to the tank, so you should find only one line from the tank to the engine. Don Smith #28087

George, I think your still living in 1967! The oil pressure guage on a '69 reads 70 lbs and the line is plastic from the gauge to the bracket that mounts on the side of the block; metal from the bracket to the fitting. Don Smith #28087

Re: Correction on oil line and press.

Don, I stand to be corrected. My quote should have been 65-67. Thanks for the correction and I have again learned something new.

But 67 wasn't such a bad year, at least the summer if you were Stateside. Doing duty along the DMZ and elsewhere in S.E. Asia was a drag.

                Thanks again,grr#33570
