    C2 Engine Painting Question

    Members,
I'm doing a little down the road thinking about the future rebuild and repaint of the engine in my '65.

Is there a great article that has been published somewhere (perhaps the Corvette Restorer Magazine) that documents how the engine should be painted? Things like: what should be installed on the engine before everything is painted?

Also, if one cannot stand the thought of painting edges of head gaskets, valve cover gaskets, etc., and chooses to paint each item separately before assembly, what point deduction would be applied if the car is judged?

    Thanks for the information.

    Regards,
    Gene

    Re: C2 Engine Painting Question

What you ask is pretty common sighting on the judging field. Cars are always prepared far better than GM did them. We can appreciate your pride in preparing a car that looks nice. To answer you question in general terms not more than 10% for any given part detailed incorrectly. Now I am only talking about overspray and gaskets of this type of nature. Hood margins incorectly done, incorrect weather strip glue or application and fiberglass inner panels painted that shouldn't be is a greater value.

Also be advised seperate painted parts can appear very different than painted as an assembly and this could cost more points. More important is to use the correct engine gaskets. Hint.... paint can cover up incorrect colored gaskets.
