    C2 engine startup

Am getting ready to start my corvette after a long sleep. The car has set with a newly rebuilt motor some 20 years and am wondering what I need to do before attempting to do so. I am not in a hurry so will wait for any replys. the motor is a l79/m20, 65 coupe. Thanks so much for your input.......Joe

Was the engine started after the rebuild to break in the cam?

      Joe,

AC has a good question and I would treat the engine just like a fresh start up even if it has been broken in.

In addition before starting I would do the following:

      1. Drain oil if present and replace with fresh oil

      2. Replace oil filter and fill oil filter with oil

      3. Add Chevrolet EOS (Engine Oil Supplement)

      4. Remove plugs and put about 2 oz. of 30 wt. in each cylinder

      5. Turn engine over by hand about 12 times

      6. Pull Distributor and prime oil pump

      7. Start up now as new rebuild

      Hope this helps,

      Regards,

      JR

          Joe------

The very first thing that I would do is to try to turn the engine over by hand using a socket on the balancer bolt. If it's "frozen" then you can skip all of the other pre-startup steps and proceed directly to engine disassembly. I hope that doesn't happen, but it is a possibility. If the engine does turn over by hand, then follow JR's checklist.
