    Air Filter Usage? (C3 w/454)

I'm confused on which AC filter is correct for my 1974 equipped with 454. Two different filters have been suggested as correct. They are... A348C and A329C.

    Thanks for any help.

Parts book indicates same filter for all '74, part number 6485887, A329C

Thanks... that's the one I bought. I thing the previous owner has placed the wrong label on the filter base.

Just for information, what does the Judging Guide call for?

My 74 L82 has an AC329C as well. The A348C is a taller, and if I recall, larger diameter filter. I am guessing the A348 would not even fit your air cleaner at all if you have the original. Also, the correct air cleaner has a seal to the hood for the air induction system, if it is all there....Craig

Right now, the car has the taller filter... Autozone, I think. I suspect it is the cross reference for the A348C.

Neither filter has a seal. There is a metal lid to hold the filter down inside the housing. The seal is incorported into a ring around the entire perimeter of the air cleaner housing.

The Technical Guide is very interesting. It just states "correct" filter.

I don't think anyone knows for sure. I have an original owner's manual and it is not specific. The shop manual is not specific. The AIM is not specific.

From a performance perspective, the taller A348C propably does a better job. Right now, judging points are important.

              Re: Air Filter Usage? (C3 & 348C)

A 348C gets introduced in 75. I was looking through an 83 P&A but the air clearner is an assembly and the filter a part of the assembly. Interesting enough...cowl induction introduced in 73 ended after 75 and in 76 Corvette went to the ThermAC and radiator induction type system. So, 75 overlapped the introduction of A348C but still retained cowl induction type air cleaner which must have been able to accommodate both 329C and 348C.

Lee per TIM&JG Quote Around March of 1974 the element used in L-48/ L82 applications changed to AC-348 C. You have a 454 and the only difference is an offset top ring so the 348 would fit. If you have an original label on the housing use what it says as the way the manual reads if your build is after March the label is what I would go by for a 454 and this is the area I judge. Lyle

Based on my VIN (29526), I think I have an April 1974 car. The sticker states the correct filter is a 348C. I believe the sticker is a reproduction as it looks too nice for its age.

I'm going with the 348C and hope someone like you judges my car on Saturday.
