    C2 Wiring

I just pulled the amp meter from my 65 Coupe which was accomplished while leaving the instrument cluster in place which was a pleasant surprise. While awaiting a new meter to be shipped I was inspecting some wiring and have a couple of questions which I hope someone can answer. I have studied my wiring diagram in the service manual but am still a bit confused.

    1. The stop lite switch has a black/orange wire and a black/white wire. Does it matter which terminal each wire goes to? Also, a capacitor connects into each terminal. Does it matter which end of the capicator goes to a terminal. If so I don't which goes where. The way I interepet the wiring diagram they seem to be on backwards but the lights work. Actually, the black/orange wire was not connected at all. It was just hanging loose and the stop lite were working ok.

    2. I also saw a capacitor that is loose and goes into the main wiring bundle at the top of the instrument cluster. I am unable at this time to determine where it goes. If a capacitor isn't hooked up, will it affect operation of a system that is is designed to work with? My understanding is that these capacitors are for radio noise.

    3. The capacitor that goes into the amp wiring also was not connected. Is there a chance that this could of caused my amp meter to quit working?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.

    Re: C2 Wiring

    Bill,

    1. Your brake lights should not work if one wire is disconnected from the switch but strange things happen sometimes.

    2. It will not matter which wire goes on the switch or which lead from the capacitor is hooked to whatever wire.

    3. Those caps are for the radio noise and should not have any effect on the operation of your Vette with the exception of a crackle or pop in the radio. They are in there to suppress noise.

    4. The only effect you may see with the caps not connected is noise in the radio and a deduction from the scoring sheets if some judge wants to stand on his or her head.

    Regards,

    JR
