I am looking for input from this forum on over-the-counter rad caps. My RC-26 cap has gone bad and I have picked up a replacement at my local auto parts store. Their parts books shows either a 16 lb cap or a 13 lb cap only - no 15 lb cap. I haven't seen a 15 lb replacement cap at local stores, and they appear to substitute 16 lb caps. Is there a functional reason to pay $30 or more for a reproduction RC-26 AC cap (or RC-307 13 lb cap) as compared to the $4 Stant cap from my local store? Also, should I choose the 16 lb version or 13 lb option? I'm not showing the car right now. I also heard something about how cap materials can affect the life of my new Dewitt's aluminum rad? Any help from the forum would be appreciated.

I recommend that you use a replacement AC RC-26 radiator cap. This cap under GM #6410206 carries a current GM list price of $19.80. You should be able to get it through a Delco dealer for about 10 bucks. If you use an aftermarket cap, use the 16 psi cap.In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top
