    Q's on a 1111263 full race TI distributor ...

... the one that was never installed on a factory production line engine: tach drive, ball bearing upper, no vac advance (fixed plate), w/early big block-type 90 deg. filled lower oil channel, and reverse rotation cam driven gear.

Just acquired an NOS unit and want to pull the shaft to examine lube situation -- the small quantity I see on the exposed end of the tach driven gear looks pretty dried-out.

So, are the ball bearings held in a race, or are they going to spill out and be impossible to re-insert ? Do you just pull the shaft out like the regular distrib's ? Is the shaft unique ? Where would you find GM parts catalog that lists the part #'s for comparison with factory ?

the reason for the ball bearing is that the thrust on the shaft is downward on the GM gear drive cam so you need the bearing for that. if you use a std distibutor which is designed for upward thrust, with out the ball bearing the top distributor bushing will be worm away. do not ask how i know that. you only have this problem when you run the GM 2 gear drive cam because the cam turns the oposite direction from the chain drive. just press it apart but remember you need to change the bottom gear if you have a chain drive cam

      Wayne-----

ALL of the parts for this distributor are unique EXCEPT for the following:

      rotor

      cap

      tach cross gear

      crossgear fitting

auto cam (brazed to top of shaft; this is not actually a seperate part and was serviced as part of the shaft assembly which IS unique; however, the autocam from other distributors can be interchanged).

shaft??? I'm not certain of this, but I believe that the shaft for this unit is unique to it.

Parts information for this distributor was never provided in any regualr P&A Catalog since this is a non-PRODUCTION item.

NONE of the parts are available from GM anymore and haven't been for years.
