GM #3999198 was NOT a heat shield, per se. It was an insulating (i.e. thick) "gasket" between the carburetor and manifold. This piece replaced GM #3989390 which was the part originally used in PRODUCTION for your application. The configuration of the 2 parts as installed on the car is virtually identical. However, as you've found, the 3999198 is discontinued from GM. Dr. Rebuild to the rescue! He carries a reproduction of this piece.
Also, just to be clear, there was NO heat shield originally used for your application. Heat shields were used for 1970 applications with EEC.In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top
