tilt/tele cosmetic differences?

i found a 72 t/t column which i have been told will fit my 69. someone said there are cosmetic differences? i understand the 69 word "lock" is rectangular/square corners vs the 72 which is oval. on my non tilt column in the car the word lock runs side to side in the car(parallel to the key) where the t/t columns the word "lock" is front to rear or 90 deg to the key. what is correct?

On 1971 tilt/tele column the word lock is rectangular/square corners, as you state. The embossed word does appear to be approximately 90 degrees as you state also, but I see the word as appearing top of the column to bottom, not front to rear.
