69 rad support installed before body paint?

I had read someplace that the rad support was installed before the body had the final paint applied and was wondering if anyone can confirm this. The reason that I'm curious is because I would like to know if the rad support should have,to some degree,a light over spray of red-oxide primer, body color and/or black out in some areas. Thanks.

Yes. And it had lots of overspray.

      Greg,

Wayne is correct. The black painted core support was installed in the raw, unpainted, unprimed body. During the body prime and color operations, the core support receives quite a bit of each coating in the form of overspray. When the entire body is in final color, the engine compartment, including much of the core support, is blacked out so most, but not all, of the primer and body color is covered once again in black.

If the 69 was the same as 73's original cars in colors like red and orange the overspray is easy to see on the radiator support the headlight springs and the center link on the headlights. Darker colors it is their but dosen't jump out at you.Their was a 72 LT-1 yellow at the Michigan chapter meet with low mileage that had one of the best original engine compartments I have seen and showed the above overspray.
