    John Deere Blitz Black

I bought a new case of Blitz Black spray paint yesterday and it no longer is the nice low gloss finish I used on 73 grills and ect. It now is shiney or I got a batch that was mixed wrong. Any other blitz black users seeing this happen with newer cans. The late Dale P. would not be happy with the change. Lyle

Just purchased three cans from our local JD dealer and they are semi-flat or about a 30% sheen.

Lyle, I'm not sure there has been a change. It seems there has always been at least three different gloss levels of "Blitz Black" (See Dale's archived post below). I never tried it, so I don't know if there are formula codes on the cans, but I would start by checking any numerical color code with the dealers catalog. It's possible you were supplied with the gloss "Blitz Black".

The GM blackout paint used in C1 production was called, "eggshell black" and had a 33 1/3 % flattener in it.

The ABSOLUTE best match for this paint comes in aerosol cans from your John Deere Lawnmower and Farm store. It's called, "Blitz Black" and is of the highest quality spray bomb on the market. The paint is also available in gallons. I like their other spray paints as well. They have a medium gloss black and a high gloss black. A C1 engine compartment detailed with three or four different shades of black is very striking from an originality point of view.

      Dale.

What I have is TY25311 Blitz Black. I have bought some John Deere med. gloss black and what they call soft coat. The only one I liked was Blitz black and I think it was only one shade. I used up the case from Nov 2003 and the new product is not the same but I may try another dealer to see if this is marked wrong. Lyle
