Engine ID

I looked at a 66' today and could not ID the engine. Casting number is 381001 and front pad reads 158452563 K10 26OMJ

I can't find any record of a block casting number of 381001. Are you sure the number isn't actually 3970010?

Also, I suspect that the engine ID code is "K1026CMJ". This would make the block an original Canadian-built small block of 350 cid and used between 1974-76. There are a few other possibilities, too, but this would be the most likely. The block casting date would narrow this down.

There were two of us that read the same block number. Is it possibly a 283 ?

The VIN derivative says the vehicle it was originally installed in came out of the Shreveport, Louisiana plant in 1975; Shreveport has always been a truck plant.
