Does anybody have experience with painting a freshly polished set of '53 hubcaps ?? I am having problems getting the paint to stick. I also would like to know what colors to use. Any help would be appreciated !!

Dean; I did a set acouple of years ago. You can buy a pencil type sander that most auto body paint store's would care. I scratched up the indention then taped it off with blue fine line tape. Got some self etching primer in a sray can and put on a couple of med. coats. After flash I put 3 med coats of red on, followed by a wet coat, and stared pulling tape as soon as I put the can down. I used enamel that looked like sportsman red. john -
I made a cardboard mask...
with eight holes in it, so I could spray the red lines. Had to clean some overspray with a swab, but I got a pretty credible sprayed edge, avoiding the "taped" look.Comment

Dean,
Most buffing compounds have a grease binder..
Make sure you wash the cap very well with simple green and hot water. Follow up with some acetone and a clean cotton cloth prior to painting.
You may also need to mist a thin coat of self etching primer if the problem persists.
