68 Power Brake Check Valve

My 68 Sneezed when I started it today and blew the PB check valve apart. Is there a source for this? I've been told it is repro'd, but the color is wrong. I think I have a line on a used original, but would like to know where to start looking for a new one. I've also been told it is not available from GM.

Comments??

I have not been able to find the pieces. I have been advised not to try to repair it even if I did.

Try the junk yards, this check valve was used on a lot of other GM products.

Went junk yarding today, but could only find the later ones, larger diameter. I think they changed in the mid-late 70's. Corvette central has the repro and a friend thinks he has one he can find, so one way or the other, I'll get back on the road. I've been told the repro's are not the right color, but they are cheap enough so I'll buy one and find out. Plus I can have brakes again while I'm looking.

These check valves (on early C3s) were installed in the power brake booster when it was painted, so they should be gloss black like the booster. That might help with the color issue, but not the configuration.

Thanks. The one I took off was an off-white. I thought that was correct according to the TM&JG, but I have not looked in a while. Odds are your memory is better than mine on this. If it's gloss black like the booster, that makes life easy.

No problem Rich. That lack of paint is a common mistake restorers make, and an easy fix.

Only "C3 guys" have this advantage, though. C2 brake boosters were plated and the valve was installed "au natural".
