    C1Deck Lid Hinges

My '61 right deck lid (three bolt pad) hinge slops downward in the closed position. The left side hinge does not come down as far in the closed position and is slightly higher than the right side in the closed position. This has caused the left side to crack the fiber glass around the nut plate from the added tension when the deck lid is closed. Is there any adjustments I can make with the deck lid springs to lower the left (three bolt pad) hinge?

    Dennis,
All adjustments are made with shims. You can add shims at all three bolt hole locations to move the entire pad down, or can add at the front or back position only to change the angle of the pad. I believe that these shims are available from the catalogs, but I have allways just fabricated my own. The hinges operate independant of each other though, and there should be no additional strain on one from not closing the same ammount. Shimming simply makes the decklid fit more flush to the body. About the only scenario that could cause this cracking is that the angle of the attach pads on the hinge are dramatically different.
