    Re: 64 fan clutch noise

    Alan-----

Fred Oliva rebuilds original fan clutches. I believe that his e-mail address is foliva@net.gate. However, check the archives to be sure.

The last available fan clutch for your application was GM #3916141 and this unit is very similar to the original in configuration. It has a circular, spring-like thermostat, though, rather than the bi-metalic plate which you have. Your unit was manufactured by a company called Sweitzer Clutch; the current part is manufactured by Eaton.

Unfortunately, I think that this unit has been recently discontinued. There should still be some around, though. It's expensive----about $190 GM list.

The fan clutch that you have with the larger bolt circle pattern is for a 1971+ application. It will not fit your 64. Also, the fan blade assembly used with this clutch cannot be used with a pre-71 fan clutch.
