His spirit also lives in Europe - the new ECE "Pedestrian Protection" legislation now mandates a minimum of four inches of clear and open crush space below all front end and hood panels to minimize injuries to pedestrians who are dumb enough to step in front of moving traffic. The front end styling of all cars sold in Europe is about to change drastically; if you look how things are packaged under hoods and front fascias today, you're lucky to find 4mm clearance, much less four inches. Oh, yes, let's eliminate all risks from daily life, "for the greater good".
