    C1-ammeter question

Recently the ammeter on my 61 has been showing a full charge above 2000 rpm's. The battery is good and when the car is idling it comes down to near zero. This is without any accessories on such as lights, radio etc. What is the best way to trouble shoot this and eliminate the possible causes in an orderly way. Thanks.

In all likelyhood, your voltage regulator is malfunctioning.

      Re: C1-ammeter question

      Rob,

I had the same problem last week. Check the following things:

      * What is the output voltage on the battery at idle and high rmp ?
      * Does the shielding on the generator shorts with one of the terminals ?
      * What happens when you disconnect the battery while the engine runs (does the amp meter drops at high rpm) ?

Don't suspect your voltage regulator right away, I solved it by reconnect the wiring between the generator and the voltage regulator...

The voltage regulator should generate app. 14-15 volt, at 1000+ rpm and shouldn't get much higher than 16 volts.

      greetings,
      Rob.
