i still have the paperwork on the car. when i picked up the car the guy at the plant,some manager,asked me how i knew about the 396s and i told him i had friends at GM. i was told mine was the 6 the one built,the first production customers car that went down the line. hell that ment nothing to me back then. the only thing that concerned me was where was the chrome air cleaner lid and valve covers. it broke a valve spring on the way back to PA and that was a big problem till the came out with new designed springs. i had the car about 7 months and broke a total of 3 springs. i just carried springs,valve spring changing tools,spark plug air fitting and a length of clothes line to put into thru the spark plug hole to hold up the valve in case i could not find any air pressure.

That's interesting. I'll bet you were the badest in town with that boy because no one else had a big block chevy of any kind then. I well remember the terrible valve springs and push rods and the huge number of complete engines that they took out. Bet you're sure glad you still have it today. -

i wish i did have it today but i sold it to get my 66 427/450 HP corvette. had to have the latest. i just found out that my C-6 that will be built the first week of aug. will cost less than a 04 C-5 because of the changes GM made in the pricing. it will cost about the same as my 02 C-5 i sold last fallComment

Oh well, ya wound up with a better car in that 66. I have one of those and it's one of my all time favorite cars. We've driven that 425 HP all over the country.

all i do with them is drive them,change the oil and filters and wash/wax. no more of this "lets see if i can make it better or faster" time is too short so i just enjoy them.Comment
