Re: 63 F.I. Air Cleaner Question....

Well, it's been nearly 24 hours since I posted the original Question. I've had several emails that sounded like the writer was leaning towards the glossy black side and two emails that were positive that it's supposed to be glossy black and use the "tall" 1/4" screw after about car number 9000. But no actual posts in favor of glossy. A few emails refered to the JG and said they really didn't have any idea but they were going with the JG and glossy black.

I've also had, as everyone can see, two quite positive posts from the "semi gloss" side of the issue and some information on the four screws so the score's about even so far.

I think we're going to need a lot more input on this to come to any conclusions. I'm determined to get this issue sorted out. Thanks,

    Michael

The paint under the service decal on both my 63's was quite glossy and both decals were original.

Re: 63 F.I. Air Cleaner Question....

        Bill,

I think that's one part that everyone will agree on. The main body of the air cleaner was indeed gloss as it was supplied by AC division and it looked just like all the other air cleaners that they made. Quite glossy.

The part that seems to be causing all the confusion tho is the "S" tube. If your car was that original at that time, do you happen to remember the difference, if any, between the main body of the air cleaner and the "S" tube? What are themarkings and head style of the tube mounting screws? Thanks,

        Michael
