I think I'm beginning to understand more of this problem with all of the complaints on the JG now. I've learned it's a lot easier to complain than it is to try to fix the problems. I posed a hypothetical question on the DB that I've known the answer to all along but it was a dry run, just to see just exactly how much participation we would get and how that system would work. I doesn't.
I now see and understand the other side of this issue, the view that the people that write these manuals see. There seems to be a very limited interest and everyone wants the other guy to handle it. Few people want to take the time to submit the information that is so badly needed and if the information doesn't come in, how can anyone expect it to get into the judging guide?
My original questions had exactly two genuine responses. I understand why owners of restored cars were not responding, or responding directly to me through email. They may not have been 100% sure of the correct answer or unwilling to change their cars if they had the part restored incorrectly but where are all the people with the original unrestored cars? Are there only three or four left in the country?
I know there are a few information road blocks with a few of the people in NCRS that want nothing to do with information submitted by members/owners and that problem definitely needs to be addressed but if members won't get involved, there will be no corrections made in the manuals. This problem will only get worse in time if it's not corrected.
There's still a lot of good information out there but if there's no way to convey this to the people who write the manuals, it's useless. And if the peope that write these manuals won't accept this information, how can this system possibly move forward?
I have a ton of original GM documentation and photos but if no one needs the real story, then it's just going to go back in the attic for another decade or two. I'm not restoring any cars now and probably won't ever again so it's not doing me any good. I just thought the NCRS deserved more than anyone but I get the feeling I'm just trying to rock the boat. I'll accept the "M" marking S tube screws and the tall 1/4" head screw after 63 #9000 but I wouldn't ever remove the original "L" head screws from either of my cars.
