    Darn eBay

When you think it is too much with the fraud listings and the deadbeat bidders, you get stung by the sellers.

I won a trailer in Pompano Beach FL. However, now the guy refuses to sell unless I meet his price of $170 higher.

As an aquaintence once said, "everyone hates lawyers -- until you need one." Too bad we don't have a few more on here.

Be sure to leave the appropriate feedback. More and more I only bid on those people's items that have 100% positive feedback.

If the feedback is from a 0-10 bidder and negative it means less to me than someone who is 50 or more. I am waiting for a June 26th pay pal payment part and it was shipped yesterday. The persons negatives are slow to ship so I need to watch the sellers feedback better. So far I have allways recived the part I bought. Lyle

Mike, file a complaint with ebay. A buyer tried to change the terms of an auction on me once. I refused his terms. He left bad feedback, and I left bad feedback to counter it, but also left a complaint with ebay. They took my statement, and later they banned him from using ebay.

I suppose a slick dude can re-register under another name, but at least you teach him that lack of integrity is going to cause him trouble when dealing with people of principle. Maybe, it'll give him pause next time...Think of it as a re-education program.

Right on Chuck! When I sell or buy on eBay it is a bona-fide commitment to me, if I made a bad call on establishing a miniumum price in hopes of attracting more bidders, my fault, and I live with that commitment. I have also accidentally bought things - one case, had two sets of valve covers on my watch list, one was POS and the other the set I wanted, dufus me, I wasn't paying attention and bid/won on the POS covers. Whacked myself it the head, spent sixty bucks, and got on with it.....my bad, not the sellers fault!......Craig

                    Re: Darn eBay

For the most part my experience with ebay has been positive. NOS and hard to find parts have come up that I have been looking for for years and many won at very respectable prices. I had much rather buy off ebay than deal with the professional vendors at Corvette swap meets. I have spent many bucks going to hundreds of swap meets over the years looking for special parts only to be asked outrageous prices when i have found them. I have found very few good deals at swap meets that compare with what is seen on ebay everyday. What little I have lost on ebay will certainly never equal the cost of dealing with these fellows. Occasionally we run into unsavory types on ebay but some precaution will minimize that much the same as a swap meet. At least on ebay there is the feedback system that says a lot about the person selling or buying. That's not available in most other situations. If a deal falls through on ebay that doesn't cost me any money, so be it. The nice thing about ebay is that everything will be new in about 7 days and I can look again. The fact that ebay attracts unsavory types doesn't surprise me, they were already in the world and would be randomly encountered at some point somewhere anyway. There are no safe havens, just be a smart buyer there as anywhere else.

AG, I agree completely. I have paid very good money for bad parts advertised in the Driveline, and I have managed to snag a relatively cheap NOS e-brake cable that I thought was extinct on ebay. Caveat emptor: Iff'n ya let yerself git bit...then it's yer own dang fault. (And that includes buying cars you can't see, smell, touch. ) But, if you're dealin' with someone dealin' dirty, then take him to task.
