Important Shock Absorber Part Number Correction

In a post down on the thread list, I provided some shock absorber part number info for a 1972 Corvette, also applicable to all 1963-82 Corvettes. Part of the information now appears to be incorrect, so I want to get this out there to avoid folks ordering the wrong parts.

Although I have previous information that the following were Corvette shocks, I now have credible information that they are NOT for a Corvette application. These are as follows:

    530-50 aka GM #88945218
    530-51 aka GM #88945219

I don't understand how my previous information got "screwed up" on these, but I'm now about 99% sure that it did. So, don't order these.

The only Delco shocks that I can confirm are for the 63-82 Corvette application are as follows and as previously provided:

    front-----530-315 aka GM #88947653
    rear------530-4 aka GM #88945172

Joe; do these replace the Reactecs?

    Joe,

    The shocks you list:

    front-----530-315 aka GM #88947653
    rear------530-4 aka GM #88945172

Are these the ones that "replace" the recently discontinued Reactecs?

Just curious as to NCRS applicability of these shocks as they are still available from GM. Are they service replacment?

            Gary-----

Yes, they replace the Reactecs and all the other GM SERVICE shocks for 63-82 with standard suspension. The fronts also replace the fronts for F-41.

                AG------

These are strictly Delco SERVICE replacement shocks. They will fit and function just fine, but they're not configured exactly like the originals.

I need to replace the shocks on my 1980. Are these the closes ones I can get to original? Do I have to get them from GM or will other parts suppliers have them?

                        Steve,

You can get a pair of the rears for $47.03 inc. S&H from www.gmpartsdirect.com. It looks like sometime between this morning and this evening the fronts are no longer available. Hard to believe, but maybe people bought the last ones during the course of today????

The fronts are not discontinued as far as I can tell. They're available under GM #88947653. Perhaps, "GM Parts Direct" is having some glitch with their database. Mine tells me the 88947653 are still available. I think that they will be for a while, too. I really think that these are a Gabriel shock which is painted and labeled for Delco and packed in Delco boxes. I don't think that they're even a product manufactured to a GM design and specification. I could be wrong about this, but I don't think I am. Nevertheless, you should be able to get them as cheaply through Delco as from a Gabriel dealer and you then know that you're getting the "GM-approved" pieces in the event that they are different than Gabriel-branded aftermarket shocks.

These shocks can be purchased from GM or from Delco dealers. They're quite inexpensive which makes me wonder just how good they really are.
