Re: OK Chuck, Ted & Dave

Pretty well got the small brake lines and fittings cleaned up and was surprised at how good those thirty five plus year old parts look after clear coating..........but......... Hey, how about that main frame brake line with the armored wire shielding?

I was thinking maybe a light hit in the blast cabinet, but the sand/surface degredation factor turned me off just as quick as I thought of it.

I'm thinking light hits with the wire wheel on my bench grinder and calling it good, any thoughts?

Yep, Chuck, wire wheel should work, but it will be a little tedious. Match the angle on the wire turns to the plane of the wire wheel and make 4-5 passes to go all the way around the tube. You will still leave a little bit of crud directly underneath the wire turn, but there's nothing you can do about it short of dipping it in muriatic acid (which will remove your tin coating in a NY second).

Probably the ideal wheel would be brass, and the softer the better, but a common steel wire wheel would also work. Use a light touch as you said. And, remember...be careful not to let the grinder demon grab your brake line, and violently whip it back at you.

        Re: I must confess

I wire wheeled the other lines and witnessed the wheel demons at work

Fortunately for me, many MANY hours of wheel time had prepared me for the potential. The light passes easily removed what little crud there was with no effort. I then gave them the final scuffing with the Scotch brite pad and wahla!

Now twisting those lonnnnng suckers around so that I could get all the angles, now that was worth filming

        Thanks for the feedback folks.
