    71 LT1 Authenticity

Without tank sheet or invoice is there any way to determine if a 71 Coupe is a true LT1? Any sure signs of a fake that average prospective buyer can inspect?
    Thanks in advance. Dave

Lots of ways, pad suffix, tach, no air. Get a 70-72 Judging guide. Have an NCRS judge go to see the car before buying! Where are you? Car?

David, check out the archives. I beleive this question was answered in great detail within the last couple of months. Look for things like no return gas line, no rad overflow tank, transistorized ingition, 6500 rpm tach, etc.

Ask the owner to see the protect-o-plate. This is a fold out heavy paper with a metal factory imprinted information plate attached and used when the car was returned to the dealership for warranty work. It will have CGZ stamping to identify LT-1 330 hp. If it has a CGY stamping and is in fact an original car, this is for the very rare ZR1, only 8 produced. If you have found a car like the latter, go buy a lottery ticket.
