    '71 Evap hose routing

I am replacing some hoses on a July 71 LS5. The hoses were routed over the power brake booster and then down to the canister. Looking in the AIM UPC 8, B7 there is a depiction of a routing that looks like it goes underneath the booster? and is secured with a clip. Any ideas on the routing? I have been using Dobbins book as a reference and those cars go over.

Second question concerns the short piece of tube that connects the PCV valve to the vacuum T. Does it have clamps at both ends or just at the PCV end?

Is the black tape that is used along different sections plain electrical or does it have a cloth type backing?

    Thanks for the input.

On my LS5 build Dec 70 the EVAP hose runs under the brake booster. On the PCV valve there are two green spring clamps on the hose on the PCV valve cover, none on the T wiith the EVAP hose I hope this helps if not I might get you a photo in a day are so. let me know.

The black tape used to hold vapor recovery lines together as well as the pre-assembled vac hose bundles was a form of cloth tape (like 'friction' tape). I searched for QUITE a while looking for correct/original tape for my '71 because the real McCoy stuff has a distinctly thin/fine weave to the cloth that off-the-shelf cloth tapes sold today don't....

I never did find a source for the right tape although one of the reproduction wiring harness folks (Eagle) gave me about 3-feet of 4-inch wide tape (you have to cut the width to mimic the factory original stuff) at his booth at the Chevy Vettefest many years ago. There was a prior thread on this maybe 2-3 years ago where others offered a source for the tape, but I didn't followup to see how close that tape was to the factory original cloth tape used....

Since, I DID discover a source for the real McCoy original tape!!!! That made it unnecessary to look for other sources of supply. OK, so you're asking where, how now....

Put on your walking shoes and visit your local you-pull-it scrap yard. Find any GM passenger car of the '71 era and look inside the trunk as well as behind the rear seat at the wiring harness. You'll find the real McCoy original thin cloth tape there and it's been protected for umpteen years from sun/weather....
