    64 COUPE

    A few questions:
The ballast resister on the firewall, what two wires?
Coil - I installed a new harness from Elec Limited, what wires go where? On the positive side, is the automatic choke (red) - condensor (orange) and 2 purple/black from the new harness. On the negative side is the distributor (black). The car will turn over but will not start. I will then put a hot wire from the positive side of the coil to the battery and it will start? What wire am I missing or have not installed.
Any tips on installing the front/rear windshields? What type of weather stuff to prevent leaking problems?

The 64 did not have an electric choke. Except for the FI, It has a hot air choke on all engines. There is a tube (fresh air) that feeds from the carb (250 & 300 HP) or air filter (365HP) to the underside of the right side exhaust manifold and a second tube (hot air) that goes from the exhaust manifold to choke. Are you using the ignition lead that is to connect to the ballast resistor on the electric choke. Its a red wire? A second wire connects from the starter to the coil bypassing the resistor. This provides a hot spark for starting. A third wire connects from the other side of the resistor to the coil. You need to refer to the wiring schematic. Your electric choke is a modification and is not part of the stock wiring.

    Good luck

You should have five wires at the starter solenoid - a 14-ga. purple wire on the small "S" terminal, an 18-ga. black/pink wire on the small "R" terminal, and three wires on the large stud - the battery cable, a 12-ga. red wire, and an 18-ga. black wire. At the coil you should have one small black wire from the distributor on the (-) terminal, and two wires on the (+) terminal - both 18-ga. black/pink (one from the ballast resistor, one from the starter). The other end of the ballast resistor is fed by an 18-ga. black/pink wire that comes through the firewall grommet from the ignition switch.

If you have a non-stock electric choke, feed it from the ignition switch side of the ballast resistor so it gets a full 12 volts (don't connect it to the coil + terminal).

            John,
I may be wrong but the black 18 ga. wire goes to ground at the starter bolt not on the stud where the + battery cable and the 12 ga. red wire attach. Timothy Barbieri

                Tim -

That's a different black wire; the engine harness has an 18-ga. black wire that goes on the battery cable stud (which is a sense wire for the ammeter), and the 14-ga. one with the big ring terminal that goes under the head of the outboard starter bolt isn't part of the engine harness - it's a separate ground wire assembly with two female connectors at the other end - one for the heater blower motor, and one for the wiper motor.

Thanks, John for the input, it was the blk/pnk wire from the inside dash harness that connected to the resistor! Do you have a 64? I will have a lot more questions. Again, THANKS!
