IT'S ALWAYS SOMETHING! C2 Water Leak

Is it just my midyear? After washing my '65 roadster, drivers side carpet wet. Water seems to be slowly eaking from under the dash. Presume I need to go to an auto glass specialist to remove the windshield trim and caulk like crazy if rust has not completely taken over. No rust signs on outside.
    Thanks, any help appreciated.
PS: Have cleaned out fresh air intake years ago from what I learned from you guys. It is not coming from vents.

Leaks in c2 and c3 are common. I think a water tight car might be the unusual thing. My c2 also leaks. The water comes down behind the radio and drips on the console. I'm having the car painted now and plan on replacing the windshield with a little luck that might stop the leak. I don't think I'll chase the leak much more than that.

I figured I was not alone. I've even seen a book for sale by one of the typical vendors pertaining specifically to leaks on our older cars. Thanks for taking the time to respond.

The ironic thing is that my '67 coupe leaked in every rain, water running right down the console from under the dash.

My '63 convertible never leaked, except a slight seepage under the rear bow and where the top, side windows, and deck lid came together. And these were only in heavy rains, the kind that slows traffic to about 40 on the highway.

So much for the idea of coupes being all weather and convertibles being fair weather.

Re: IT'S ALWAYS SOMETHING! C2 Water Leak

I hope my experience helps you with your problem.
I have a C-3 (71) with a leak on the floor mat under the dash. I had to replace the cracked windshield so I thought I'd find rust holes or another problem. To my pleasure, I found a very nice windshield track. The leak persisted after the windshield replacement.

I had finally had enough, so I tore apart the entire dash. Believe it or not, I found considerable seapage through an inner body joint. We applied sealant to the joint and to my pleasure again, the leakage has stopped. I still keep a watchful eye to more leaks, but so far so dry.

For what it's worth, I also had rotted vent tubes in my rear compartment from the exterior vents. I replaced the tubes and I now have dry carpet! (I know a C-3 is different from a C-2, but they also share a few similarities.)

I can't remember the C-2 body pictorals too well, but if you snoop deep enough, I know you WILL get to the bottom of your leak problem.

It also helps to 'camp' out in the car during a strong shower. It does matter if the car is inclined up, down or completely level, so remember to consider as many factors as possible if you're serious in solving this problem.

                    Best wishes.
                    Tony

Re: IT'S ALWAYS SOMETHING! C2 Water Leak

I had a problem like this years ago and the source turned out to be associated with the under-dash vents. Water from the wiper area runs directly over the vents. My leak source turned out to be the screws that hold the plastic vent covers on. They protrude directly into the flow-path of the water coming from the cowls under the wipers. I applied sealant to the screws during install and the leaks disappear completely.
