I suppose if I were ever asked for advice in troubleshooting, I would now say something like never assume anything and never rule out the obvious.
My door ajar warning light wouldn't come on but very intermittantly for either door. I presumed it was a faulty ground that affected both door switches. For some reason, I ruled out the likelyhood that both switches were bad. They were both bad. I ordered replacements from Ecklers. One of theirs was bad too. The spring broke through the center of the body before I got a chance to screw it back in the door jamb.
I haven't tried to check the factory alarm yet, but I will give the door ajar contact a closer look before I chase my tail again for something more technical.
I hope my experience helps another restorer somewhere, sometime.
