    C2 console screws

I just received center console screws for my 67 C2, and am surprised how much smaller and shorter they are compared to the ones that have been there. The front brackets seem to have no nut plate and are just drilled steel and the holes that are there are too large for the replacement screws. For those of you who have worked on your original consoles and can recall, are the original screws supposed to be quite small diameter? Can I add small U-nuts to the front brackets to enable the use of the smaller screws?

    Tim,
If I recall correctly those screws are #8 with #6 oval heads. These are available from screw jobbers. Most of the interior scerws use the under sized heads. The hardware store varity (bigger head)will not seat correctly in the countersunk hole.

tim i suspect that as the console screws were removed and replaced over several owners , the hole was stripped and a larger screw worked great. the knowledge you seek can be found in the G.M parts book most of the time , generally will tell you a #8 - 24 * 1" . i am not an owner of a mid year , but it is a good book to have.
