    Early 70 Radio Shielding

I just installed the heat shieldings and radio shieldings in my early 70 base engine. The work was not very hard but my hands are crying a little with all those bolts, french locks, shield brakets and the like. I had a problem with the front LH shield. As you know early 70's use four shieldings as in 69. I found big interference between the heat shield (angular shape different to the others) and the radio shield which is very closed and with hole for the temperature sender (old table clock shape...). Incidentally (as Joe says ) the 69 AIM drawings show no heat shield in that position but could be a coincidence, while 70 AIM shows later year config. Is the heat shield deleted when radio shield is installed in front LH position? Without it shield fits perfectly.

Roberto, Both should be used. The outside radio shield should just fall into place if the plug shield is on right.Just keep playing with it. Bob

I seem to remember having this problem when I Installed on my 70 L-46. I thought there were 2 different shapes to the heat shield. I think the one on the passenger side rear( also has a hole for the TCS temp switch) was a little different from the drivers side front. I have at least one extra, I'll compare it with whats on the car and see if there's a part # on it. Dennis

Thanks Bob and you Dennis. You are right, both left front and rear right are similar but not identical. The right rear has a little hole for the wing nut of side wire shield while the left front is shorter and more like a close box. Perhaps Bob is right, I have to play/tilt more the heat shield and see what happens. Thanks, Roberto, NCRS #30019, RMC
